Top Recipes of 2017

As the year draws to the end, I thought it would be fun to look back at my top five favorite recipes of 2017.

Comfort Food for the Win – Alton Brown’s Shepherd Pie Recipe.

Shepherd's Pie

Shepherd’s pie is one of my favorite comfort foods. There is something magical about a heaping serving of shepherd’s pie on a cold day. It’s just so filling and delicious. This recipe by Alton Brown is by far my favorite take on this classic dish. The Worcestershire sauce and the tomato paste really bump up the flavor making it truly one of a kind.

Vegetarian Love Story – Minestrone Soup
Minestrone Soup

If I’m being honest minestrone soup was never one of my favorites growing up. I loved chicken noodle and a hearty beef stew but avoided minestrone like the plague. Fast-forward ten years and boy have I changed my tune. Homemade minestrone is phenomenal and this recipe from Food Network Magazine is a new favorite. One of my goals in 2017 was to eat more vegetarian meals so in this recipe I like to sub out the chicken broth for vegetable broth. I’m left with a delicious vegetarian soup that pairs perfectly with a hearty loaf of bread for dipping.

A Personal Success Story – White Bean Chili

Not to toot my own horn too much but this chili recipe is a favorite in my house. My family loves a good pot of chili but sometimes the old standby can feel a little stale. This recipe switches things up with ground pork and cannellini beans instead of the usual ground beef and kidney beans.

A Guilty Pleasure – Sweet Caramelized Pork
Sweet Caramelized Pork - PictureTheRecipe

This dish from Picture The Recipe is a guilty pleasure. The sweet and sticky caramelized pork is positively scrumptious and there are never any leftovers to be found. My dad even likes to steal the pan and soak up the extra sauce with some bread to make sure he gets every last drop.

Good to the Last (Pecan) Bite – Pecan Pie Bites

In the dessert category, this recipe takes the cake (or rather the pie). These little pecan bites are a fan favorite. They rarely last longer than a day and my best friend even suggested that she’d prefer a batch of these to a Christmas present this year. When it comes to dessert these mini pecan pies are the perfect bite-sized treat for any party.

Alrightie! That’s my roundup of my favorite recipes from 2017. I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and take some time to try out a recipe or two. I promise these recipes won’t disappoint. Happy New Year and Happy Eating!
